Discovering NEW techniques for creating art.

First of all I decided this is the summer of
"discovering new techniques!"

Two new techniques (to me) are 1) fluid acrylic painting (with cells), and 2) Encaustic painting.

I started with fluid acrylic painting technique. I studied different techniques like layer pouring and dirty pour.  *

Layer pouring is just like it sounds. Pour a small amount (up to you) one color on the canvas or substrate, second color, third color and repeat. Most recommend pouring the white first and last. You can get into the chemical aspect or density to figure out what works best for you.

Dirty pour (in a cup) is pouring your first color in a cup and layering desired colors until you think there is enough paint to cover your canvas or substrate.

*Don't listen to the people who say "it's a lot of wasted paint!" .... unless you just can't get passed "wasted paint." Start out with the cheap fluid paints 99¢ or less.

 List: Acrylic paints
  • fluid medium (opt)
  • cups (plastic wash and reuse)
  • Canvas or substrate
  • Silicone (lubricating stuff for machines that have joints)
  • Large enough drip pan (turkey roasting pan- disposable kind, shallow card board box, plastic container or the lid.
  • mixing sticks (popsicle sticks- I'm addicted to Outshine fruit popsicles so I have not had to buy any plan sticks).
  • Gloves
  • Turkey baster (Dollar Tree) for adding little amounts of water to achieve that "batter" consistency.
 Artists I like to watch:

Shari Replogle "Wax on Wednesday"

Annemarie Ridderhof (beware she gets her head in the way all the time)

These are my first fluid acrylic abstract artworks:
All on 8x10" stretched canvas.
