Paper Figures
Grade 4 and 5
Objective: TLW create a figure depicting an action or movement.
The students (who wanted to participate) would get up and strike a pose depicting a movement. The other students observed the angles in the body and drew quick gestural drawing.
Grouping students allowed them to work together deciding what their figure would be doing. Some decided on the figures playing basketball. Other student chose to work independently. Figures like the ice skater were created by the independent student.
I realized the students are limited in their awareness of the human body. I would first give them a sheet of newsprint paper 22x28" and have them problem solve how to make a figure. This would be a pre-assessment in a Fine Arts Portfolio.
Demonstrating how to create a figure starts with mapping out the sheet of paper.
